How to use the Power of Divesting and Investing to Create a Portfolio to Fit Your Values

In episode 15 of the Investing in Impact podcast, I speak with Gideon Cohn and Monica Meng, Co-founders of Good Capital Investment Group, on using the power of divesting and investing to create a portfolio to fit your values.

Gideon Cohn played a pivotal role in the inception of Good Capital Investment Group, driven by the profound belief that purposeful, conscious investing can seamlessly intertwine with profitability and accessibility.

During his tenure as a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ at Highbridge Financial Group in New York, Gideon gained firsthand insights into how invested capital could harmonize with client values and societal advancement.

Witnessing clients taking pride in utilizing their hard-earned funds for the greater good became a driving force.

Having earned his cum laude distinction from the University of New Hampshire and a Certificate of Financial Planning from Boston University, Gideon further solidified his standing with the attainment of his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) certification.

He possesses the FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities registrations, serving as an Investment Advisor Representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®.

Beyond his financial endeavors, Gideon remains steadfast in his commitment to improving the world. He has spearheaded humanitarian endeavors in developing nations, mentored aspiring individuals, and contributed to local union committees.

Amid his leisure moments, Gideon wears the hat of a commercially rated pilot, harkening back to a past where he navigated cargo planes across the Alaskan skies.

Monica Meng’s deep-seated conviction revolves around the principle of doing well while doing good. Her professional journey commenced within the realm of finance, marked by an analyst program at Citigroup.

She traversed through diverse roles in product management, sales, and operations across teams that included private equity services, fund services, and supplier finance.

Embarking on an educational tangent, Monica segued into the role of a preschool teacher in Manhattan, subsequently pivoting to education technology. The realm of ed tech startups, including Nomster Chef, ChitChat VR, and Knovva Academy, bore witness to her prowess in business development, marketing, instructional design, and UX research, including a stint at Google.

These diverse experiences converged to fuel Monica’s co-founding of Good Capital, where her efforts are channeled towards advocating socially responsible investing and bolstering financial empowerment, particularly for women.

Monica’s academic journey encompasses a BA from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her presence has resonated through podcast features such as the Type A Podcast and How to Save the World, along with her role as a workshop leader at Outwild.
