Introducing Better for All, a solution for eco-conscious consumers seeking sustainable alternatives in everyday life.

Their BPI Certified Compostable cups are designed to break down in home composters in just six months or in less than ten weeks in a commercial setting, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint.

Crafted from pure, nontoxic, renewable materials, these cups are free from microplastics and toxins, providing peace of mind for both users and the planet.

Each cup is USDA Certified 100% Biobased, made from a PHA produced by microbes through fermentation, further emphasizing Better for All's commitment to sustainability.

Their cups contain no harmful additives or chemicals and are packaged in home compostable sleeves. As a proud Blue Verified product on Oceanic Global's index, Better for All adheres to the highest standards of environmental responsibility.

Manufactured in Kentucky, USA, by—a family-founded, majority woman-owned company—Better for All is dedicated to creating a better future for everyone, one cup at a time.

Whether customers need small runs or large quantities printed and shipped from Dallas, TX, Better for All has them covered.

They invite consumers to join in making a positive impact for the planet with Better for All.

What was the Lightbulb Moment / Origin Story of Better for All?

Better for All is a family business. In 2018 my sister, mother, stepfather and I found ourselves living in the same city, and set our hearts on starting a family business serving the local community - a drinks play?

Street food pop-up?

Coffee shop with music?

During a local beverage trade show we happened upon a small booth featuring PLA forks. PLA, short for polylactic acid, is a commercially compostable material typically derived from corn or sugar.

For me, agonizing over the mountains of plastic waste a food and drinks business could potentially generate, the option to offer our customers a safer and more circular packaging option was thrilling.

And for my stepfather, former CEO of successful consumer brands including Lululemon and Reebok, this - the idea of products made from circular, biobased and nontoxic materials - became the animating principle for the new business.

The decision to focus on plant based and compostable single use products makes even more sense in hindsight: 2018 was an inflection point in terms of climate and pollution.

That summer marked the middle of the deadliest wildfire season in California history (now the third deadliest), and stories about ocean islands of plastic waste and broken municipal recycling systems were regularly featured in the news.

U.S. plastic recycling rates remained at a dismal 5-9%.

In 2020 we took stock.

The sheer scale of the problem we tackled had come into focus. Bags, hospitality, apparel, personal care, cannabis - in every market sector there were billions of plastic containers heading, best case, to landfill. But we needed to focus, to zero in on a product that resonated.

Most packaging is perceived as a barrier to the contents inside, something to be removed and discarded.

Cups are different.

Cups are omnipresent at festivals, events, on campuses and at parties. Cups and celebrations go hand in hand. We had our product.

Cups need to be nontoxic, for obvious reasons. To date, many party and event cups are made from styrofoam and polystyrene, toxic and nonrecyclable materials.

We wanted a cup material that was nontoxic, wouldn’t melt in your warehouse (PLA melts at temps above 105 F), and was maximally biodegradable and compostable.

The only commercially available material to fit that bill was PHA.

The learning curve was steep, but today we offer three cup sizes all made from a pure PHA called PHBH, and manufactured in the U.S..

Our cups are certified home compostable, certified commercially compostable, 100% biobased, and made from a material that is certified soil degradable and certified marine degradable.

What is Better for All's Mission and Vision?

Our overarching mission is to disrupt the party and event cup space with products that will perform beautifully and do no harm.

We partner with producers, sponsors and concessionaires to help shift the event space from a waste management model to a material management model.

We work with composters, haulers, sorters, drinks brands, creators, artists and venue owners…we know we are just one element in an ecosystem striving to do better across the board.

We have submitted our entire supply chain to scrutiny from Oceanic Global, earning their Blue Product verification, and become official Solutions Providers for the Oak View Group’s GOAL (Green Operations and Advanced Leadership) members.

How Does Better for All Impact Lives and/or the Environment in a Positive Way?

We monitor every aspect of our supply chain, stipulating the use of compostable inks and packaging, recycled paper stock, and chemical free manufacturing and printing treatments.

Legacy plastics manufacturing integrates a wide array of hormone disrupting and otherwise toxic additives.

By taking the time and investing the funds to develop processes that use none of these additives or treatments, we believe we are improving the lives of the people who make, handle and use Better for All cups.

How have you funded the company thus far? Better for All, to date, is wholly family funded, or bootstrapped.

We have benefited from support of our US manufacturer, Westfall, and our PHBH material supplier Kaneka Green Planet through the research and development phase. We are currently fundraising and looking for investment partners to scale up capacity as we grow our customer base.

What Tools Do You Use to Run the Company?

Our operations are supported by a diverse range of tools to streamline productivity and enhance collaboration.

For communication, we use Slack and Google Business Suite; for e-commerce and content, Shopify, Wordpress, and Adobe Suite; for finance, Bill.com and QuickBooks; for design, AutoCAD Fusion; and for social media, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
