Meet The New Way To Shop And Protect the Planet

We at DoneGood are thrilled to announce today the creation of a new shopping platform in partnership with the environmental non-profit 1% for the Planet called Purchase for the Planet, the online store where people can shop and know all their purchases are supporting highly eco-friendly brands and helping to fund environmental non-profit organizations at the same time.

All the products—and special offers—on the Purchase for the Planet site are both members of 1% for the Planet and have been DoneGood-approved for highly ethical and sustainable business practices.

“Consumer purchasing power is the world’s greatest force for change, especially where the environment is concerned,” said Cullen Schwarz, cofounder of DoneGood. “Americans donate around $11 billion to non-profits focused on protecting our environment and wildlife each year. Meanwhile, we all spend $350 billion each day buying goods and services. The new Purchase for the Planet site provides consumers one-stop shopping for brands that are doing good for the planet—whether powering their facilities with renewable energy, making products with upcycled materials, or otherwise protecting the planet through their everyday business practices.

On the new site, visitors can explore dozens of brands with products ranging from clothing to home goods to outdoor gear to personal beauty products. More brands will be added to the site in the coming weeks and months. The new site also features exclusive discounts and special offers—so people can save money and make the world better, just by getting something they needed to buy anyway.

As members of 1% for the Planet, every brand featured on the site donates 1% of its revenue to approved environmental non-profit organizations. In addition, DoneGood will donate its share of revenue earned from sales through the Purchase for the Planet site to 1% for the Planet.

Creating and consuming consumer products accounts for nearly one-third of U.S. carbon emissions. That means getting companies to produce products in a way that cuts carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions is one of the most effective ways to fight climate change.  And the most proven way to get businesses to change their behavior is for consumers to demonstrate there’s demand for sustainably-made products.  Even small changes in consumer behavior have been shown to be highly effective in getting companies to change their behavior.
