About Safe Drinking Water
Safe drinking water is one of the most important things for maintaining good health. It is essential for proper hydration, which can prevent many different health problems. However, it is not always easy to find safe drinking water.
In some areas, the water may be contaminated with harmful bacteria or chemicals. This can make people very sick, and it is important to be aware of the potential dangers.
Waterborne Diseases
Waterborne diseases are illnesses caused by pathogenic microorganisms that are transmitted in water. These diseases can be spread through contact with contaminated fresh water or salt water, and can range from mild to deadly.
Common waterborne illnesses include gastrointestinal infections such as diarrhea, as well as more serious diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever. These diseases are often spread through contaminated water sources, such as wells, lakes, and rivers.
In developed countries, waterborne illnesses are usually not a major health concern due to the availability of clean water and proper sanitation.
However, in developing countries, waterborne diseases are a leading cause of death.
771 million people in the world live without clean and safe drinking water.
That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Or, twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family.

Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick.
charity: water is on a mission to change that. When you donate to charity: water, you’re investing in the hopes and dreams of families around the world.
Families are healthier. Children are able to attend school full-time. Women can start a business or simply rest.
Fathers have enough water for their crops and livestock. Communities thrive. That’s the power of your generosity.
